Design with the End in Mind: The Story Behind Cirqla

Design with the End in Mind: The Story Behind Cirqla

At Japan TKY, we believe good design considers the entire life cycle of a product. From the materials we choose and the way a fabric is made, to how long a garment retains its quality and remains a pleasure to wear.

It is not just about creating something that looks beautiful today, but about designing pieces that remain relevant for years to come. This is what we mean by design with the end in mind.

Why we set out to create a new travel fabric

Travel fabric has been at the heart of many Japan TKY collections for years. Its refined appearance, wrinkle-resistant qualities and comfortable stretch have become synonymous with our signature travel jersey.

But there is always room to move forward. So we asked ourselves: can we preserve the quality, comfort and performance our travel fabric is known for, while taking another step towards a more circular future?

That ambition led to the development of Cirqla, our more sustainable travel fabric.

Quality without compromise

From the very beginning, one thing was clear: developing a new fabric could never come at the expense of the comfort and quality Japan TKY is known for.

Cirqla needed to offer the same freedom of movement, the same luxurious look and the same effortless comfort as our trusted travel quality. Because a garment only deserves a long-term place in your wardrobe if you truly enjoy wearing it.

During our search, we discovered ECONYL® regenerated nylon: a high-quality fibre made from waste materials such as discarded fishing nets, textile scraps and industrial plastic. It allowed us to put circularity at the foundation of the fabric, without compromising on quality, comfort or appearance.

More than a new fabric

For us, Cirqla goes beyond introducing a new material. Its development also encouraged us to rethink parts of our own design and production process, with circularity in mind.

Fabric offcuts created during garment production are now returned to our fabric supplier, where they can be processed into new yarns. In this way, we actively contribute to a more circular production cycle and consider what happens to our materials beyond the moment a garment is made.

Designed to stay in your wardrobe

For us, longevity begins with creating clothes you genuinely want to keep wearing.

That is why we design pieces that transcend seasons: refined in appearance, uncompromising in quality and effortless to wear. Pieces that continue to feel relevant and become lasting favourites within your wardrobe.

Cirqla is not an end point, but a next step. One that brings design, quality, comfort and circularity closer together.

Design with the end in mind.
